Greetings from SD - Mrs. Jefferson

Greetings to All from South Dakota!

Today was day 6 of our journey to Yellowstone! We began our day with bacon, sausage, and French toast all made at our campsite—yummy!! After our delicious meal, we traveled down the Needles Highway—it was simply breathtaking. It is always difficult for me to comprehend the great sites we have available to us right here in these United States of which the Needles Highway is one. We were also able to see the Crazy Horse monument that is being carved out of the Black Hills of South Dakota as a tribute to the legacy of the Native Americans. Work on this site is tedious, but will someday be magnificent in its size and detail.
After a sack lunch, the students attempted to go horseback riding—however, the weather would not cooperate. So, we washed clothes at the local laundromat in Custer. All of you would be proud of the expertise our students showed in this activity (if they have pretended in the past to have no knowledge on how to do this, they were tricking you J)! Supper consisted of buffalo burgers and pan-fried rainbow trout (which was caught by the students from the pond located just yards away from our campsite).
I hope you are able to tell everyone is doing well, learning lifetime skills, and beginning to grasp the beauty of our great country. Truthfully, words cannot express all the emotions that bubble to the surface when viewing our nation’s wonders.
We are asked often who we are and what we are doing. When we explain our purpose, most are amazed at what our students have available to them. We always remember to give thanks and accolades to those who have made this great educational experience possible.
All of you would be so proud of our students—I know I am. I am also proud of Patty Littlejohn who had the foresight twenty-one years ago to tenaciously work to make this experience a reality, and Carole Grooms who has made this blog possible. Take care—we will see you in ten days!

From the Midwest and with great appreciation for our blessings,
Kristi Jefferson

  1. Can't wait for Will to get home and grill some fish for us!!

Also, we got a call that someone found Will's ID. They will mail it back to us. It was in his wallet so I hope that doesn't mean he has lost all his money, too. If it does - another life lesson.

Glad you all are having such a great trip.

  2. Yep, that's what it means! But, he says it only had $10.00 in it 'cause he split his money up and kept another $60.00 elsewhere in his luggage. :)
